Taking part in Word on the Street was a good experience. I had my own table and had the opportunity to talk with so many persons passing by and stopping. Word on the Street is a yearly event in Toronto for book sellers, whether companies or authors. My book is I Like Me: 5 Easy Ways for Parents to help their Children feel Awesome about Themselves. This is a book that both parents and caregivers find useful on a daily basis as it discusses the critical elements at each stage of healthy development. Feeling good about themselves, children’s self-concept grows steadily in a positive manner. Nowadays, a positive self-concept is something to strive for especially as a child encounters increasingly complex situations. These are at school, home , on the play field, in the mall, everywhere. Parents in trying to influence the positive growth of the self-concept have to start with themselves. How do I feel about myself? What tells me that I am doing the right thing with my children? Am I moving with the times? These are important questions. But at the same time the answers are tempered with reality, discussion and knowledge. So being at Word on the Street I discussed some of these issues with passers-by and learnt that these are questions that all parents face from time to time. I Like Me is a good read for parents and teachers. All those persons who deliver parenting sessions on a weekly basis will also love it. Here are a few pictures of the event!
